I’m just the bloke down the pub when it comes to green issues (and most other issues). I laugh when Jeremy Clarkson has a pop at the green vigilantes and sit up and listen when someone with a brain explains what we’re all doing to our environment.
I think the vigilantes have a role to play, if only to make the other, less ‘in your face’ exponents, look like someone that we can all do business with.
Is there an issue or not? I don’t know, I’m not qualified to make a judgement even if I had the time to research it all properly.
But common sense seems to suggest that if we don’t replace what we use in terms of the planets natural resources and we pump bad stuff into the atmosphere that we rely on for life itself, we’re going to run into problems in the future.
And even if all that is wrong then what’s the downside of going green? Our interests are all aligned and we all start working together for the first time in our planets history. We create a new industry, we reduce the cost of energy for us all – it doesn’t sound like a bad thing to me whatever the motivation for doing it.
So what am I doing? Not huge amounts it has to be said but I intend on doing more. I recycle, I cycle. My new house will be full of green stuff and I’m finally doing something with the www.patioheaters.co.uk domain, I’ve owned for years. My original intention was to sell patio heaters using the domain, but I haven’t been able to do it because I’ve been worried that patio heaters are real bad boys when it comes to CO2 emmissions. I’ve had quite a few offers for the domain but don’t want it to get into the wrong hands if patio heaters really are that bad.
So I think I’ve found a compromise – I’ve set up the site to look at both sides of the story and if things go to plan I’ll make a few quid along the way.
